Songwriting with MERPIRE: A Low-Sensory Space to Learn, Listen & Create
For folks with disabilities, neurodivergence, mental or chronic illness.
Ever had that feeling after an incredible gig where all you want to do is rush home and start writing music? This workshop is inspired by that spark.
Join us on Saturday 25 April 12:30-3PM for a relaxed afternoon of creativity and connection. In-person at Studio Take Care (1 Pitt St, Brunswick) OR ONLINE VIA ZOOM.
The session includes:
✨ A supportive, low-sensory space to explore songwriting together
✨ An intimate live performance
✨ A Q&A and song analysis with indie dark-pop artist MERPIRE
✨ A short discussion on songwriting techniques used in Merpire’s work
✨ Learn to apply the facilitator's technique in your own writing during the workshop
There’s something quite animalistic about Merpire’s music - the moniker of Naarm/Melbourne-based Rhiannon Atkinson-Howatt - whose huge, gritty voice, whimsical turn-of-phrase and inimitable chord choices seem impossible to tame, were it not for a sobering honesty that could heal even the most stoic crowd.
This workshop is open to anyone, no experience needed. No pressure, no expectations—just space to explore, create, and get inspired.
